Dave Hughes is an Australian artist and poet living on the Gold Coast in South East Queensland. The last twelve months have seen his test of faith in the Universe. By removing himself from the tradtional workplace he has gifted himself the time and space to work with 'heart and soul' on his art.
The Mandala presented here is a work from earlier days. The depth of feeling and imagery allows us to understand why he has chosen this path.
The verse listed below shows the direction he will travel. He has taken the first steps towards helping us all heal the environment in which we live as well as ourselves. The way to the soul is through the heart. Dave presents the opportunity to go into your heart and meet your own spirit.

MY ART TAKES ME FAR AWAY
FROM THE SPEED OF THE MODERN DAY
FOR HOURS I AND THE PAPER PLAY
AS THE DRAWING UNFOLDS IN ITS OWN INTRICATE WAY
THOUSANDS OF LINES JOIN AND LET GO
AS THE IMAGE CUTS THROUGH TO FINALLY SHOW
THAT THE PICTURE HAS A VALUE WHICH IS NOT IN DOLLARS
I LIKE IT I HATE IT THE CRITIC HOLLERS
AND I LOOK AT HIM AND PONDER WITHIN
THAT HIS OPINION I DO NOT SHARE
TO ME WHAT COUNTS ITS NOT THE AMOUNTS
OF PRAISE FROM THE PEOPLE WHO STARE
ITS WHAT I TOOK THE TIME TO GO INTO MY MIND
AND CREATE SOMETHING I COULD SHARE
SO LOOK DEEP IN THE FRAME AND REMEMBER THE NAME
OF THE PERSON WHOSE MIND YOU LOOK INTO
AND IF IT TAKES YOU AWAY FROM THE RUSH OF THE DAY
WELL CONSIDER IT A START

Living life without a known purpose
Often wondering about this human circus
Searching in places that you've already looked
Treading water but you seem to be hooked.
Allowance means that it can be
Need is something you can set free
Dawn brings the suns magical energy.
Forgiving the self is gaining new ground
Opening the heart makes a beautiful sound
Unlocking the soul lets love flow unbound
Nurturing the body helps the chi flow around
Do these few things what was lost will be found.
