IOLITE
Physical Properties of IOLITE
The chemical composition of IOLITE is made up of: complex silicate, magnesium and aluminium.
Gem quality IOLITE is sapphire-blue in colour and has been misnamed 'water sapphire' in the past. Non gem-quality crystals are a variety of dark blue to light blue, sometimes with grey as an extra hue. IOLITE is known as cordierite by mineralogists after the French geologist Dr. PLA Cordier. The name IOLITE is derived from the Greek word for violet. The best blue colour is seen when the crystal is viewed down the length of the prism. This physical property gives this stone its third name - dichroite. Some specimens found in Sri Lanka have such thin platelets that they give the stone a red colour. These have become known as the 'bloodshot iolite". IOLITE makes a very good stone for carving.
Most gem quality IOLITE is found in water- worn pebbles.
The locations where this stone may be found include
Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Namibia, Tanzania and Canada
Metaphysial Properties of IOLITE
IOLITE is one of the major stones used in healing, guided meditations and during astral travel adventures. It works through the third eye/crown area. The "correct" positioning of the stone needs to be intuited individually. The purpose for this stone is to enhance the evolution of spiritual growth as painlessly and effortlessly as possible. The electrical charge from the gem/crystal boosts the strength in aligning the auric field with the spiritual bodies.
IOLITE balances the yin and yang of the male and female energy. It brings a balance to self enabling a greater sense of responsiblity in the management of relationships and money management. It releases disharmony allowing the movement towards perfection, not only in this world but also in the next world. It allows for patience as the acknowledger of access to inner knowledge, and in the knowing of direction.
